Etymology of “EDM”, simplified in cartoons
After reading the excellent “Etymology of EDM: The Complex Heritage Of Electronic Dance Music” by Joshua Glazer, I had to think of a cartoon series we created at DanceTrippin.
During the summer of 2012, we produced a new cartoon each week, to highlight the trending “hot news” in the dance scene at that moment. Reading Joshua’s article, I realised quite a few are still relevant, including one that was created precisely because of the “Mark Farrina VIP booth incident” he’s referring to:

week 25 2012
“Evolution of DJ man” was the first cartoon of the series, highlighting the rise of the USB-stick-DJ.

Week 20 2012
Combining Paris Hilton’s DJ debut and the announcement of Swedish House Mafia to have their last tour.

Week 26 2012
The below cartoon appeared in response to an outcry within the dance scene, about whether David Guetta was or wasn’t mixing live during Tomorrowland.

Week 25 2012
Corporate America setting their sights on the dance scene.

Week 34 2012
The craziness surrounding the rallying for votes for the annual DJ Mag top 100 poll.

Week 27 2012
Hope you enjoyed them!
